healthcare

We are a family of three.

We play healthy,

But what if knick-knack patty-whack

Oops, there goes a knee?

Well for the little one, there is no fee.

Not so for my wife and me,

Income without insurance,

Probably couldn’t afford to fill a cup with pee.

(…Except for where that’s free)

A few centrist senators are putting their foot down,

Giving the public option a frown.

But their concerns always seem so lame.

Like bringing hate into certain halls in town.

What is right for a society?

What is a right?

Some say healthcare, like food, is not an intrinsic right.

A boycott is ridiculous, but likewise,

Is saying to the boy sick on the cot

“It’s best if we let the market dictate your care”

Do you hear any obstinance there?

Yet, with my opinion I am not so certain…

Not calling it a closed curtain.

But I am middle class and white

And have an education, Oh and

Generous parents who rise to the occasion.

Something to think about

Remember those without much clout

Because if no one should knick-knack, give-a-whack

The helpless will remain…

Down and out.
